Flexi Learning: A Vocational Route into Hair & Beauty

Course Overview

This hands-on in-house vocational course in our Beauty Pod introduces learners to the core skills and knowledge required for entry into the beauty industry. This course is structured into units giving learners enriched training opportunities as well as hands on experience and the essential qualities needed for each successfully completed unit.

Hair & Beauty Units

  • Introduction to the Beauty Industry
    Gain a foundational understanding of the beauty industry exploring various treatment and career pathways.


  • Nail Art & Manicure Techniques
    Learn professional nail care, design techniques, and manicure skills using industry-standard tools and products.
     
  • Skincare & Basic Beauty Therapy
    Understand skin types and conditions, and learn basic skincare routines and facial techniques.
     
  • Customer Care & Professionalism
    Build confidence in delivering high-quality customer service, with a focus on salon etiquette and communication.


  • Health & Safety in a Salon Environment
    Learn essential health and safety procedures, including hygiene, risk assessments, and safe working practices.

Enrichment Training Opportunities

To enhance practical skills and industry readiness, learners will also have the opportunity to take part in interim workshops in the following areas:

  • Hairdressing – introductory cutting, styling and finishing techniques.
  • Barbering – basic clipper work and grooming techniques tailored for men’s hair.
  • Makeup – foundational training in everyday and event makeup applications, theatrical make-up, henna art.

These enrichment sessions are designed to broaden learners’ exposure 

to wider career options within the beauty sector.

Flexi Learning: A Vocational Route into Construction Skills

Course Overview

This hands-on in-house vocational course introduces learners to the core skills and knowledge required for entry into the construction industry. This course is structured into units giving learners enriched training opportunities as well as hands on experience and the essential qualities needed for each successfully completed unit. These lessons are also designed to teach basic life skills in home maintenance.

Construction Skills Units

  • Introduction to Construction Skills
    Gain a foundational understanding of the construction industry, exploring various skills and trades and career pathways.
     
  • Painting & Decorating
    Learn professional wallpapering and painting skills, how to prepare work surfaces and look after equipment.
     
  • Woodwork Skills
    Understand woodwork techniques, handle power tools and create basic wooden structures.
     
  • Tiling
    Build confidence in tiling, using the correct equipment and materials, measuring and calculating the number of tiles required.  

          

  • Health & Safety in Construction
    Learn essential health and safety procedures, including hazards, safe use of tools, risk assessments, and safe working practices.

Enrichment Training Opportunities

To enhance practical skills and industry readiness, learners will also have the opportunity to take part in interim workshops in the following areas:

  • Bricklaying – materials and tools used in bricklaying and bricklaying techniques.
  • Carpentry and joinery – identifying workshop tools and how to use them safely, identify basic woodwork joints.
  • Plumbing – identify tools used in plumbing, hot and cold water systems, basic plumbing installation techniques.

These enrichment sessions are designed to broaden learners’ exposure 

to wider career options within the construction industry.

Flexi Learning: A Vocational Route to Food Prep & Nutrition

Course Overview

This hands-on in-house vocational course is for learners who want to work in the hospitality and catering industry.  The course introduces learners to the core skills and knowledge required for entry into the food and catering industry. This course is structured into units giving learners enriched training opportunities as well as hands on experience and the essential qualities needed for each successfully completed unit.

Food Prep & Nutrition

  • Food Hygiene & Safety
    Demonstrate effective and safe cooking skills by planning, preparing and cooking using a variety of food commodities, cooking techniques and equipment.


  • Food Nutrition & Health
    Develop knowledge and understanding of the functional properties and chemical processes as well as the nutritional content of food and drinks.
     
  • Healthy Eating
    Understand the relationship between diet, nutrition and health, including the physiological and psychological effects of poor diet and health.


  • Food Choices and Sustainability
    Understand the economic, environmental, ethical, and socio-cultural influences on food availability, production processes, and diet and health choices.    


  • Food Choices and Sustainability
    Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of functional and nutritional properties, sensory qualities and microbiological food safety considerations when preparing, processing, storing, cooking and serving food.


  • Cultural Cuisine
    Understand and explore a range of ingredients and processes from different culinary traditions (traditional British and international), to inspire new ideas or modify existing recipes.

Enrichment Training Opportunities

To enhance practical skills learners will also have the opportunity to take part in interim workshops to enhance their musical versatility:

  • Afternoon Tea - supports communication, listening and concentration skills, including preparing and hosting, planning a theme, designing invitations.
  • Charity Bake Sale – identify a charity or cause, teamwork to agree on products to sell and prices to raise funds.
  • Catering for Community Events – work as a team, design publicity and work as a member of a group to organise and deliver a community event.

These enrichment sessions are designed to broaden learners’ exposure 

to wider career options within the food and catering sector.

Flexi Learning: A Vocational Route into Fashion & Textiles

Course Overview

This hands-on in-house vocational course is the first steps to introduce learners to the world of textiles and fashion design and introduces learners to the core skills and knowledge required for entry into the world of fashion and design. This course is structured into units giving learners enriched training opportunities as well as hands on experience and the essential qualities needed for each successfully completed unit. 

Fashion & Textiles Industry

  • Introduction to Fashion and Textiles Skills
    Gain foundational understanding of the fashion and textiles industry. Whether you want to design your own fashion collection, develop your skills, or start your own business, it is a key life skill which can help young creative talents to shine and an exciting way to build a good understanding of the various skills and trades and career pathways.
     
  • Sewing Skills
    Learn machine stitching how to use different patterns, create pieces including cushion covers, wall hangings, fabric decoration. Learn how to operate a sewing machine safely.
     
  • Basic Dressmaking Skills
    Understand how to create a themed mood board to design an item of clothing, marking out a pattern on fabric, e.g. using chalk and a template.
     
  • Printing and Heat Pressing
    Build confidence in using graphic design software such as Adobe Illustrator, designing and producing textiles using a heat press.

          

  • Sustainable Fashion
    What is 'sustainability', 'fair trade' and 'biodegradable' mean and why these terms are important in the fashion industry. Design a fashion garment, based on a brief of either redesigning of an old garment or reusing at least two materials, eg. fabric, paper, plastic.

Enrichment Training Opportunities

To enhance practical skills and industry readiness, learners will also have the opportunity to take part in interim workshops in the following areas:

  • Fashion Photo Shoot – essential photographic principles, e.g. the rule of thirds, camera placement, use of a tripod, selecting the best light.
  • Tie Dying – learning tie dying techniques and creating different designs and looks.
  • Resin - learn chemical process for mixing resin and hardener, use a range of silicone moulds to create different designs including coasters, key rings and jewellery.

These enrichment sessions are designed to broaden learners’ exposure 

to wider career options within the fashion and textiles industry.

Flexi Learning: A Vocational Route to Early Years

Course Overview

This vocational course in early years and child development allows learners to gain a basic knowledge of childcare in early years environments and the core skills and knowledge required for entry          into the childcare sector, including the value of play, roles and responsibilities of carers and volunteers, the importance of developing links in the local community. This course is structured into units giving learners enriched training opportunities as well as hands on experience and the essential qualities needed for each successfully completed unit.

Music and Media Skills

  • Introduction to Early Years and Child Development
    Introduce learners to child development needs and the value and benefits for the early years settings.


  • The Value of Play for Babies and Young Children
    Understand the value of play in the development of babies and young children in an early years setting.
     
  • Management and Organisation
    Understand regulations and best practice in the management and organisation of an early years setting. 


  • Roles and Responsibilities in an Early Years Setting
    Explore the world of radio broadcasting and production. 


  • Community Development in Early Years Settings
    Developing links within the local community, to ensure that the learner knows the legal implications and responsibilities of the setting in recruiting, inducting and supporting volunteers.

Enrichment Training Opportunities

To enhance practical skills students will also have the opportunity to take part in interim workshops to enhance their musical versatility:

  • Work Experience - gain hands-on experience of the world of work, the benefits of work experience and exploring career options. Complete a SWOT (strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats) analysis of own skills and personal qualities.
  • Behaviour Management – understand the key features of the triune brain model and the physiological processes associated with dysregulation, identify strategies and techniques of support. 
  • Child Development – understand Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, the specific and prime areas of learning and development, characteristics of non-directive play and the benefits of learning through play.

These enrichment sessions are designed to broaden learners’ exposure 

to wider career options within the Early Years and Child Development sector.

Flexi Learning: A Vocational Route to Music and Media

Course Overview

This hands-on in-house vocational course in music introduces learners to the core skills and knowledge required for entry into the music industry. This course is structured into units giving learners enriched training opportunities as well as hands on experience and the essential qualities needed for each successfully completed unit.

Music and Media Skills

  • Music Production
    Learn the art of creating and arranging your own tracks.


  • Chords and Scales
    Develop a solid foundation in music theory.
     
  • Recording in the Studio
    Gain hands-on experience with professional recording          
    equipment.


  • Radio Production
    Explore the world of radio broadcasting and production. 


  • Music for Film & TV
    Discover how to compose and produce music for visual media.

Enrichment Training Opportunities

To enhance practical skills learners will also have the opportunity to take part in interim workshops to enhance their musical versatility:

  • Music Therapy - supports communication, listening and concentration skills, also helps to develop physical, sensory and cognitive skills.
  • Guitar Skills – identify the strings and main parts of a guitar, learn basic guitar playing skills. 
  • Keyboard – experiment with different sounds on a keyboard, play tunes on a keyboard.
  • AI (Artificial Intelligence) - select and use suitable AI tools to create designs, use programs like Canva and other AI tools to create media applications.

These enrichment sessions are designed to broaden learners’ exposure 

to wider career options within the music industry.
